I tested on a secondary machine running same version and did not have the same issue. SourceĪfter auto-upgrade to latest version of Plex for Mac player, after launch I am getting stuck on a grey screen with no ability to do anything (see attached screen shot) after the Plex logo is displayed. Here are some reports from Plex users who are stuck on a grey or blank screen on their Mac after the v1.44.0 update. Many are confused and wondering if the developers test the app before releasing the update. Some have already tried reinstalling the app but that isn’t helping either. update are preventing many from using the app.Īdding to the woes, Plex users who updated the app to v1.44.0 on their Mac say they are seeing a grey or blank screen and are unable to do anything. Users can either opt for the free service that lets them stream content from their personal library or Plex’s paid service and access content from MGM, Lionsgate, and Warner Bros amongst several others.īut lately, issues such as broken fast forward and rewind function and Plex Media server crashing after the v1. Over the years, the developers have added several new features to the app. Pretty neat interface though.Plex is one of the few media streaming services that enables users to play digital content from one machine to another. Otherwise the interface doesn't have skins on an iDevice, LG TV, etc. If the client is running on a Mac then there are skins like XBMC. In other words, the GUI's for xbmc, Boxee and Plex and way ahead of most things out there. Boxee is a different approach though the GUI would be along the same lines. It's really a tossup between Plex and XBMC for Mini owners. If you have a PC then run the Media server there and the client on an iDevice or Android device or Roku. If you have a Mac then you can just try both the Plex Media server and client on the same Mac. It is organized in a different way though. You have internet channels with Plex, similar to the addons for XBMC. Local and internet content are not as intertwined. My opinion is the XBMC player is more stable but the Plex server+ client is more flexible and is prettier. I prefer the scraping for the Plex Server, but XBMC's is also really good. Scraping is done via imdb for the Plex server. Plex just seems friendlier to everyone here at home, but XBMC is a more stable client in dealing with accessing the newer Minis' video hardware. On my Mac Mini HTPC I have both Plex and XBMC ( Dharma). I find the Plex approach more stable there. XBMC on the ATV2 would have to decode the files on that platform. So on my ATV2 I can play most files as though they were local. There are Android, iDevice, Mac, LG and now Roku clients.ĭepending on the client platform the file is either transcoded or streamed directly (no transcoding) from the Plex Media Server to the client. and then there is the client which plays files on wherever you have it installed. The Plex Media Server which goes about collecting metadata and serving out internet channels such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. I use it on my Linux ATV1 with a CrystalHD card and it is very stable. They also took out the file management functions of xbmc and moved to a database library approach. It branched off to become Plex in order to make it more Mac like.
